The kitchen, for most, is the heart of the home. It’s where you gather with friends and family to eat, drink, and enjoy time together. But, perhaps you are beginning to feel like the space needs a bit of a pick me up. However, the cost of updating your kitchen can add up quickly! If you are longing for a Pinterest worthy kitchen, but don’t quite have the budget for a complete overhaul; don’t fret! Here are five inexpensive, but gorgeous, ways you can update your kitchen.

Tip One: Paint Your Cabinets

I know what you are thinking; that is going to take forever! However, if you set aside a weekend designated to tackling the project (and perhaps bribing friends and family to help!) this project is well worth the time and effort. Ensure you prep all of the doors and drawers. You will need some elbow grease to scrub the surfaces to make sure you remove all grease and residue. Next, use 100-grit sandpaper to get all areas as smooth as possible. A latex satin finish works well on kitchen cabinets and isn’t as hard to work with as oil paint. Using a paint sprayer is another option. It will take some time but, I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Tip 2: Change Your Hardware

Whether or not you decide to paint your existing cabinets, another great, and quick way to update your kitchen is to add new handles, and pulls. There are plenty of options, from daring pops of colour, to classic black. However, when making your choice, ensure you choose something that will stand the test of time (and trends!). While pineapple pulls may be cute for a few seasons, they may get old fast. Then you will be right back at square one again.

Tip 3: Paint An Accent Wall

Adding a pop of colour is a quick and easy solution. The best part is that it completely changes the look of the room instantly. If your kitchen is a light colour, try going a few shades deeper. And, don’t be afraid to experiment with colour. Not ready to paint your entire kitchen teal? This is the perfect time to add your favourite hue on a much smaller scale.

Tip 4: Replace Your Lighting

Who doesn’t love good lighting? I know I sure do. And, there are endless options for updating your kitchen lighting. From classic to modern, there is a light to fit your wants and needs. Since lighting is so important to a room, this simple change can completely switch up the mood and feel of your kitchen. There are also options available at varying price points, so finding an option that fits your budget is easily attainable.

Tip 5: Add a Pop of Colour

Are you an avid baker? Do you have a colourful mixer that you can display on your counter to add a burst of colour and interest? Or, consider a bright toaster or kettle! Use small appliances as fun accessories in your kitchen. The best part is that they can be put away, moved around, and switched up depending on your mood, and the aesthetic you are going for.
