So, whether you want to enjoy the dazzling lights from the comfort of your warm vehicle, or bundle up and enjoy them up close, there is a great list of things to do in Edmonton to kick off the festive season.
Edmonton Downtown Holiday Light Up
When: November 14: 5pm-6:30pm
Where: Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: Free
The Edmonton Downtown Holiday Light Up is sure to excite visitors young and old. Come and experience Sir Winston Churchill Square as it transforms into a winter wonderland with the official lighting of the holiday tree, carolers, festive drinks and treats.
All is Bright on 124
When: November 16: 4pm-8pm
Where: 124 Street & Area
Cost: Free
Join the businesses of 124 Street and High Street as they light up the community! With live music, street performers, fire dancers, beverage gardens, food trucks, kids’ area, sleigh rides and s’mores, you will be certain to find something of interest for every member of your family.
The Magic of Lights
When: November 22, 2019-Saturday January 4, 2020
Where: Highway 19 & Highway 2 (2 kms West); Nisku
Cost: $25+gst per car
The Magic of Lights is the perfect way to enjoy beautiful light displays from the comfort of your vehicle. Described as a “drive-through” experience, the magical route will delight you at every turn.
Enjoy Light Festival
When: November 21, 2019-January 5, 2020
Where: The Enjoy Centre
Cost: $9.95 – $19.95 (Children 3 & under free!)
Enjoy Light Festival, or ELF, will transform the Enjoy Centre into an unforgettable experience complete with whimsical light displays that creates an interactive and memorable experience for all.
Christmas Glow
When: November 28, 2019-January 4, 2020
Where: Edmonton Expo Center
Cost: $16.99-$22.99
You won’t want to miss this incredible event! “Glow around the world and follow Santa on his journey to deliver present in 6 different countries!” With millions of lights, you can enjoy interactive light gardens, illuminated structures, food, festive drinks and live entertainment.
Winter Whyte Light Up
When: November 30: 4pm-7pm
Where: Dr. Wilbert McIntyre Park
Cost: Free
The Old Strathcona Business Association is lighting up McIntyre Park and has a plethora of festive activities planned. Offering free Santa photos at the Strathcona Public Library, entertainers throughout the park and fire-pits and s’mores, this is sure to be a great holiday activity. Plus, there are plenty of shops along Whyte Avenue to pop into if you get chilly!
Zoominescence-Festival of Lights
When: Every December Weekend, plus December 26
Where: Edmonton Valley Zoo
Cost: $8.50/adult, $6/child
Who doesn’t love the zoo? And, who doesn’t love the zoo while also enjoying hot chocolate, twinkling lights, skating and fire dancers? Zoominescence is perfect for the animal and holiday lovers!
Candy Cane Lane
When: December 7, 2019-January 1, 2020
Where: 148 Street between 100 Avenue to 92 Avenue
Cost: Free, but donations to the Edmonton Food Bank are encouraged and appreciated
Candy Cane Lane has become a tradition amongst Edmontonians. Come down and enjoy the colourful light displays and unique decorations. Remember to book your sleigh ride ahead of time!
